Introduction to
Lucid Dreaming
You may have heard of lucid dreaming, but were not sure what
it was. Read on and here is some information to get you
started.
The term lucid dreaming is actually simpler than it sounds.
Lucid dreaming is when you are a part of your dream. You fully
realize you are having a dream and become part of it. You are
able to control what happens in your dream and which way your
dream goes. Lucid dreaming can be interesting and fascinating.
However, you do need to be very aware of yourself, your
surroundings, and your dreaming patterns. Learning to lucid
dream is not difficult and can be very interesting and easy to
do once you learn how.
When you are dreaming you have to realize you are dreaming. As
you begin to try to lucid dream, prior to falling asleep being
aware that you are going to wake up in your dream and
remembering that. While dreaming you will wake up in your
dream, your dream is still going on, but now you are able to
control what happens. You can become anything you want and do
whatever you want. You can control the outcome of the dream
and what happens in the dream.
Also, lucid dreaming can be used to confront your fears or to
fully understand the symbols and things that have happened in
your past dreams and the dreams you are in. Lucid dreaming can
be used as a way to learn so much more about yourself.
Understanding why you are dreaming what you are dreaming, the
reasons behind it, developing a better understanding of
yourself and what is happening in your life are some of the
ways that lucid dreaming can be very useful.
There are a couple different levels to lucid dreaming and they
are:
The pre-lucid dream. Pre-lucid dreaming is when you are
dreaming but you are not consciously aware that you are.
However, while you are dreaming you feel that something is not
right or you are uncomfortable and cannot figure out why. Once
you wake up you realize that the reason you were uncomfortable
was because you were dreaming. Everything begins to make sense
then.
Then there is low level lucidity and that is exactly how it
sounds. Low level lucidity is when you realize you are in a
dream for just a few brief moments. You control the dream for
a few seconds or minutes and then that consciousness is gone
again. You fall right back into the dream again and allow to
happen whatever was happening before. You may awake and even
realize that you were conscious for a few moments.
Next is high lucidity. High lucidity is when you awake in the
dream and are very conscious of it. You are very aware from
then on out and control everything that happens and how the
dream goes and what happens. Colors are brighter and more
real, things smell better or stronger, and you can look around
you farther, you can see everything. High lucidity dreaming is
very exciting, because you have absolute control and can learn
so much at this point.
Lastly, there is absolute lucid dreaming. Absolute lucid
dreaming is when prior to falling asleep you know you will be
conscious in your dream and the second the dream begins you
are already in control of the dream and everything that is
happening. You enter the dream very consciously instead of
having to awake while in the dream.
Lucid dreaming can be a very interesting, fun, and exciting
technique to use to learn more about yourself, your fears, and
who you are. Entering your dreams consciously and being able
to truly be a part of and understand what is happening will
make the dream so much more useful and enlightening.
Practicing waking up in your dreams and being conscious while
dreaming will put you on your way to lucid dreaming regularly.
